What's New
New in 2006
- The PreCalculus
Honors book
becomes available.
- The Online Tools section
of this website makes a drill page, a worksheet generator, and investment and loan calculators
available.
New in 2005
- Honors Enhancement Books have
been developed for Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2.
- Algebra 2 has been reformatted,
putting the Lesson and Extra Practice pages together in the same book. Also, Lesson 31 now teaches
vectors, to help the student to be better prepared for Physics.
- PreCalculus This course
is an update of our award-winning Trigonometry course, with several new lessons.
- Stewardship Math is made
available. Written as the advice of a father to his sons, it is composed of 38 devotionals
on biblical principles of finance, and includes 30 lessons covering a variety of math
applications in the life of a consumer.
New in 2004
- After
over 10 years of listening to suggestions
from customers and reps, we decided it was
time to stop tweaking the existing program
and to begin thinking about incorporating
these ideas into a major revision. The process
began over a year ago as we at the home office
began reworking the scope and sequences to
make the necessary improvements. Then during
the last school year I taught most of the
new material at a local co-op. In October,
2003 and January, 2004, I recorded new videos
for the new material, and this has been digitally
edited into a DVD format (It will still be
available on video as well).
- So here is the scoop. The Introduction, Foundation, Intermediate,
and Advanced books have been rewritten as Primer, Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta,
Epsilon, Zeta and Pre-Algebra. The 4 books originally had 146 regular lessons
with an additional 19 special or review lessons for 165 total. The 8 new books,
that cover the same material (and do a better job presenting and reviewing it),
comprise 30 lessons in each book, for 240 total lessons.
Reasons for the Revisions:
- There is more consistent review of previously
learned material from book to book. When
the initial books were first created they
were not part of a united whole, but one
book was written approximately every two
years.
- The subtraction is more thorough and
spread out over 2 books.
- The division has been significantly strengthened.
- Over the years, more lessons were added
to the Intermediate Curriculum, but the
new material is even better. There is no need for Extra Practice Sheets,
as the layout of the new books consists
of 3 practice pages for the new material
and 3 student review pages with cumulative
review just as in the former student sheets.
- The word problems have been significantly
improved and expanded. In the 3 practice
pages, there are story problems on the
new topic. In the 3 student review pages
there are word problems from the new topic
as well as previous topics. Word problems
are now in every book, including the Primer.
- Measurement is taught and reviewed throughout
the books, not just in Special Units.
- The 8 books, by being written simultaneously,
allow for better progression of new concepts
and more effective review of previously
studied topics.
- DVDs are available as well as video.
This is a huge boon if 2 students are in
the same book, as there will be no more
fast forwarding or rewinding. It also makes
for a cleaner image. From a corporate perspective
we also now have the capability for translating
MUS into foreign languages with the capability
for dubbing over the new digital videos.
- The look is very much improved and more
pleasing to the eye. It is also consistent
throughout the books with the same layout
and fonts being employed in each text.
- Because of new technology since we began
in 1990, the text is cleaner and more readable.
- There are tests for each lesson as well
as 4 unit tests placed strategically throughout
the book, and a final exam, to help the
teacher gauge whether mastery learning
is taking place. Tests are in a separate
booklet.
- Placement in the new material will be
much easier.
- The whole program is just plain better.
It is a better math program. Students and
parents alike will find they are able to
learn better and more effectively than
before.
