Great Pre Calculus Testimony

I was browsing a forum today and someone asked the question “Does home schooling affect a student’s chances of getting into college?” here is one of the responses.

Home schooling most definitely affects a student’s chances of getting into a good university. In most cases, it improves their chances.

Most home school materials and curricula are designed for use by the parent who is not an expert in every subject. I’m taking Pre Calculus this year, and my mom barely got through high school algebra. We use a home school math curriculum called Math U See. It is a manipulative based program that is intended to make abstract math concepts feel concrete and only introduce one new concept at a time, meaning you don’t go on to arc functions if you still don’t understand how to read a trigonometric table or find the sine, cosine, and tangent of a triangle. One step at a time. It comes with DVD lessons that are being conducted by an excellent teacher who is actually teaching a class but is focused on the purpose of teaching the home schooled viewer. It comes with a very clear student work book and test book with a parent/teacher guide that provides an answer key and walks the parents step by step through helping their child understand the lesson. Ever since we started using this program I’ve been doing GREAT in math, and my mom has been learning along with me. She’s doing great too.

It’s fun to run across such great testimonies.

It’s Time to VOTE!

Mr. E finishes Primer

I was blog browsing today and found this great post.

Mr. E joyfully completed the first level in his math program today. He is now officially done with Primer and will start Alpha this coming Monday. Might as well give him a few days off for all the good work he’s been doing! It also works out better for us to start new lessons on Monday around here, so that’s what we’ll be doing. Most weeks when things are going smoothly, ie, the math concepts are clicking and we don’t get bogged down,

I just bought the math program I am going to go with for the next year or so. i will have two 4s (turn to 5s in late summer) and i think it will be a good program to make concepts memorable. I also like that the songs come in two versions, Bible based and kids songs. I am sometime challenged to use the Bible in Math (you can count only so many arks) and am delighted that they did it this way.

Momtofivekids wrote a review of Math-U-See and had this to say,

My children have different learning styles, but I think Math-U-See is good for any type of learner due to the multi-sensory approach. The blocks are colorful and the videos are based around the child “seeing” how math works.

This year I broke down and bought each of the girls a fancy-do math program. All 3 of the girls are very pleased with it. Its called Math U See and I highly recommend it!

My daughter has used your program for 6 years and just entered high school. Her average in math this year was over 100% in her class and she is requesting that I order the geometry program for her to complete over the summer so she can learn from YOU rather than in traditional school. Thank you for your awesome program.

I received my order this morning and started using it with my older daughter, my younger son (5) was trying to do everything on the video with us. He begged me to do it with him too!!!!! So- I decided to get him his own “big boy” program for us to do together! This is awesome. I wish there was something like this when I was a little girl. Thanks for developing it and THANK YOU for the fast shipping!!!!!!

Dear Steve,

I am a professor of chemistry for a selective liberal arts institution. Besides teaching general, organic, and senior topics courses in chemistry, I also teach trigonometry and college algebra. Each year I am increasingly surprised by the paucity of mathematical skills displayed by incoming freshmen. Even the simplest of algebraic expressions are mismanipulated. There are several factors that are contributing to this phenomenon, but one of the factors is the math curriculum used by the public schools. The students that come through my classroom who have been homeschooled are consistently capable of handling the math implicit to chemistry.

As homeshcool parents, my wife and I chose to use Math-U-See on a trial basis two years ago. My son and daughter are building their own equations and solving for unknowns in their Math-U-See curricula. How I wished my freshmen in general chemistry could do the same! Math-U-See is not simplistic that overlooks rigor. Quite the opposite! Math-U-See presents mathematical concepts in a logical and rational manner, which inherently makes sense. If the time permitted, I would have all of my college chemistry students take a math course using Math-U-See!

Again. Thank you for the product you produce. It is a quality product.

Math-U-See Testimonials

Here are a few of my favorite testimonials that we have recently received via our feedback page. We get a lot of these and they are always a joy to read.

Dear Steve,
I am so thankful for Math-U-See. I am a homeschool mom and former public school teacher. I have never used a curriculum where the learner has such a multi-sensory experience. I feel as though I am learning concepts I was never taught. My son is doing so well with Pre-Algebra and no longer hates math. I am amazed. We use the DVD and then do as many practice sheets as is needed for mastery. The test is then administered before moving to a new lesson. It is an excellent curriculum for our needs and has been highly recommended to others. I have told many people who have children with learning disabilities in public and private schools as well as other homeschoolers. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! We are now looking forward to rather than fearing algebra. Cindy, NC

THANK YOU!!!!
For the first time in my son’s 16-year life he finally understands math! My friend told me about math u see and I didn’t believe all her praises, well call me Thomas (doubting Thomas) Coty just ran in the kitchen jumping up and down ranting and raving ” I understand this Stuff!!!” He even showed me ALL his work. We are ordering Algebra 2 for next year. God’s Blessings.

Here is my favorite one :-)

I used your math program when I was younger and I remember learning algebraic equations in 2nd grade. Now that I am in 7th grade, algebra is so easy for me. I feel like it is review! Thank you!
Sincerely,
