Happy Easter!

One of our reps sent us these pictures of their decorated easter eggs, enjoy!

We have a tradition in our house, we color eggs on Resurrection Sunday. This year, because we don’t need as many eggs as we have in the past, we colored some for my assistant here in the office. This is part of what we gave her. We finished through Algebra 2 but the Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 didn’t turn out very well (hard to dye eggs brown).

Recipe for Block Cake

The MUS reps in Washington posted this on their blog and I just had to post it here as well :-)

Kelly’s granddaughter, Hailey is 4 yo and her favorite math activity is making a cake.

While she isn’t officially in Primer she is well on her way. As you will see when you read her cake recipe, she already as some math mastery just from playing and talking to granny about it.I asked her for the recipe.

First you make the cake by stacking ALL the red ones on top of each other.

There are different ways to make the frosting and this is the method used for the design in the picture:

First you put as many blues (5’s) as possible around the outer edge. There will not be enough room to finish the edge in blue so you will need to fill in with pink. Put the remaining blues on the inside top.

On the inside edge add 2 of the 2’s followed by 8 greens

At this point fill in with the rest of the pink because it is important to use as many pink as possible before running out of room because a princess always uses pink.

There was a spot just right for a yellow. When asked what size would fit in there Hailey immediately said “Four”

!!! Who hoo good job Hailey you have mastery! When you get to the lesson on solving for the unknown it will be a piece of cake for you!

Add 3 more 2’s and finish it off with 1 green.

Serves as 1 math lesson and a whole lot of fun.

The Math-U-See Blues

I took this video at our Fall 2007 Rep Convention in Colorado…

Enjoy :-)

The Math-U-See Blues - Written and performed by Ron Foster

Math-U-See Rep Convention

Every year or so, all the regional representatives gather for a rep convention. This year we met in Melbourne Florida and those of us from the cooler regions enjoyed a break from the chilly air.

We discussed better ways to meet our customers (i.e. members of the Math-U-See family) needs, took care of a little business, swapped ideas and had fun.

Here we are, families and all

Math-U-See Rep Highlight

Math-U-See works with regional representatives to meet the needs of the customers. The reps travel to homeschool conventions, answer questions relating to using Math-U-See and they handle the individual product orders for their specific region.

Today’s Rep highlight is Jacki Knight from Alberta Canada.

Jacki is married to Richard and they have homeschooled their children since 1989, though they have all graduated. Jacki remarked that, “it seems like discipling continues no matter what age your children are :-)” Their children are, Jeremy (married to Beth-Ann), Jeffrey (married to Christa with one baby on the way), and Christal. The children help out with Math-U-See during conference season and sometimes in the shipping and receiving department.

They have been working with Math-U-See since 1993 and cover the entire country of Canada eh?

We asked them these questions,
Q. - How did you first come in contact with Math-U-See?

A. - We were looking for a math program for our children that would teach us the “how’s” and “why’s” building a solid foundation that would enable them to apply the concepts in everyday life. At the time Jacki was a KONOS rep and at the Rep conference she was introduced to Math-U-See - after trying seven different programs Math-U-See met each of our expectations and goals.

Q. - Describe your first meeting with Steve?

A. - Oh my goodness! How about we describe Steve rather then the first meeting.
He is a man of passion, fun loving, dedicated, loyal, generous - I love his sense of humor - the twinkle in his eye when he is going to be mischievous and the way he sees the goodness in every person he comes in contact with!
Thank you Steve for the honor of working with a man such as you!

Q. - What do you like best about working with Math-U-See?

A. - Seeing families successful and children equipped with tools that will last a lifetime. I love the Math-U-See family too!

Q. - Do you like cheese?

A. - Yes absolutely! Every kind they make!

Q. - Give one fun memory of your time with MUS

A. - We have so many memories but the one that we laugh about the most would probably be the year that we got our dates for the rep conference mixed up and came a week early! It was a great time of fellowship with the Demme clan, laying sod, playing Frisbee golf, relaxing at the pool, riding in a buggy, watching home movies … Missing the fellowship with the Math-U-See family - that was not funny.

Math-U-See Rep Highlight

Math-U-See works with regional representatives to meet the needs of the customers. The reps travel to homeschool conventions, answer questions relating to using Math-U-See and they handle the individual product orders for their specific region.

Here are a some questions we asked Susan…

MUS Blog - How did you first come in contact with Math-U-See?

Susan - A friend of our Pastor’s called one day. She loves to examine curriculum to see what learning style would go best with that style of teaching. She said to Craig (our Pastor) everyone in your homeschool group should use Math U See and Susan should sell it. And that was that! And here we are 10 years later. When I went to my very first homeschool fair I was already a vendor.

MUS Blog - Tell us about the first time you met Steve Demme.

Susan - It was at the Math U See rep gathering. He sure was taller than I thought he would be. I walked right up to him, because of course I knew what he looked like. And he said… you must be Susan and had some cute comment to make us all laugh and ease the introductions. Which is so like him.

MUS Blog - What do you like best about working with MUS?

Susan - I never tire of hearing how much Math U See has helped a child and made it possible for a Mom to know they can teach math with ease. I love being able to help the families reach their goals. Helping them with Math U See is one way to make it possible to train up their children in the way they should go.

MUS Blog - Do you like cheese?

Susan - Do I like cheese? Well… yes I do.

MUS Blog - Give one fun memory of your time with MUS

Susan - One time at a restaurant with Steve Demme, Dan Sinclair (the CA rep) another vendor and several others of us. Dan and Steve played a joke on the other vendor, Andrew (who is a friend) and I wondered how we would stop laughing. We laughed so hard my stomach hurt and wondered what other people thought about all of us out of towners. We truly have had many fun times together with Steve over the years. There is no questions that Steve loves life!

The Crothers have been working with Math-U-See for around 11 years now and their region includes Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming and South Dakota. I had the opportunity to visiting them on my way to Alaska and I had a great time seeing the Math-U-See operation as well as singing in their kitchen as we made enchiladas. Fun times and good memories.
