This is what a Math-U-See Happy Dance looks like
Thanks to “Pages of our Life” for letting me post the video
The other day we received our new math books from Math U See. My youngest was so excited he grabbed his and started dancing! I asked him if I could video him and he said, “Sure, Mom!”. This was so funny! It just goes to show that Steve Demme has done a great job instilling a love for Math.

We were doing some filming on Friday which was also Steve’s birthday, at the end of the filming the students erupted into song.
While “taking notes” they also made these happy birthday signs.

You can leave your happy birthday message in the comments if you like.
Here is a word problem taken from one of our books that has caused a little confusion.
Jenna ordered four fish sandwiches and one hamburger. How many sandwiches did she order in all?
Jenny at Home is Where You Start From, wondered,
Mommy thought the answer was 4 - since clearly it was stated there were 4 sandwiches and 1 hamburger.
Demi was of the opinion that the answer was 5 - because a hamburger has 2 pieces of bread and a filling in between.
I asked Miriam, who wrote said word problem, for the story...
One of the most interesting things about writing word problems is finding how differently we all think. When I go out for fast food and ask my husband what kind of sandwich he wants, he can choose beef, chicken or fish. Hey, he can even choose a veggie burger ( not that he would!). But, I heard from my editor in England that this question sent her friends into hysterical laughter. I thought it was just a UK thing until I saw this post. Any suggestions for what kind of sandwich to substitute for the hamburger?
-Miriam

Your opinion and suggestions are needed, leave a comment and opine whether a Hamburger is a sandwich or not and place your choice for a substitute sandwich.
If we use your suggestion I’ll send you a Math-U-See tote bag

We have a tradition in our house, we color eggs on Resurrection Sunday. This year, because we don’t need as many eggs as we have in the past, we colored some for my assistant here in the office. This is part of what we gave her. We finished through Algebra 2 but the Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 didn’t turn out very well (hard to dye eggs brown).

Happy Easter!
