Guest Post - Ice Cream and Math

Guest Post today from Nikowa at theKnowledge House Academy

This week’s Math U See lesson is about memorizing the colors of the unit bars. Well I wanted to get creative so I did a Google search for “numbers, ice cream cone” & came up with this great site .

I immediately printed it out & wrote (with a sharpie) each number (through 10) on them. Then we colored each ice cream scoop to match the corresponding unit bar.

Math Ice Cream

The boys LOVED putting it together & placing it on the wall!

We named each level a different flavor! Hopefully this will “stick” with them.
We have

  • #1-Lime Sherbet
  • #2-Orange Sherbet
  • #3-Strawberry
  • #4-Lemon
  • #5-Blueberry
  • #6-Grape
  • #7-Vanilla
  • #8-Chocolate
  • #9-Mint
  • #10-Blue Raspberry

What a yummy way to learn math!

We also named the colors as flavors. my boys came up with most of the names on their own. Our list is very similar to yours. Thanks to Math-U-See I have never had a child say “I hate Math”.

This is perfect for my oldest! He is only 30 months old, but he is getting to know his numbers now. The trick is to make math fun for him. Looks like we are going to have a “math cone” in his room :)

What a cute idea! We love Chocol8 so this is a great next step in the concept. Thanks for sharing. :)
