Ask Steve a question

We’ve started a new section on the forum called “Ask Steve a Question” in which you can visit and do as the title suggests. Once you have asked a question I’ll take the video camera and get his response to your question. Then I’ll post it online so you can see it.

Sort of like a virtual convention :-) Click here to visit and ask your question.

P.S. Speaking of Steve, he is currently in Istanbul Turkey, and hopefully taking some pictures for a post on his blog :-)

    Hello Steve,
My 7yr old daugter is currently using your Alpha program. I started her with Primer due to public school to homeschool tranfer. When Primer got into addition I then switched to Alpha. She is now into adding her 2s’ But I’m still not convinced she really is mastering. When asked problems out loud she “counts” mostley in her mind for the answer.
I discourage fingers so she tries hard not to use them. She can add with ease using the manipulatives.
But then becomes sort of like quick Quientin and then feels slowed down by them. I use the on line helps drills and worksheets also and she does 100% for zeros 90 to 100% for 1s But 2s usually 70 to 80%.
I dont actually grade her but I do help her self correct. We have been working on the 2’s for almost 3 weeks. I’m not sure to move on due to not knowing if she’s really “getting it”. My 5yr old son who is in Primer is fast learning her math problems as he listens in on her lessons and as I bring up math in everyday occurances. I was a math flunkie It all started around the times of multipulcation never got resolved and all went downhill from there. I DON’T want this to happen to her. PLEASE HELP,
    Mary Edwards

Do I have to register to ask a question? It isn’t even related to maths. I’m remembering something that your dad said about families, and you guys not going through the “normal” rebeling stage that a most teenagers do go through. (when you were in South
    Australia)

My son is working independently through Pre-Calculus and he says that there are mistakes in the answer key. Is there any way of finding out if there are really mistakes? ie. Have you published mistakes that have been found? or is the answer key perfect and my son is mistaken?

I have left a question twice but haven’t gotten a response. I am thinking that maybe I am not leaving it in the right spot???

Please email me and let me know. Thanks!!
