Math Tidbit

Do you know what a Palindromic number is?

A palindromic number is a number that reads the same forwards and backwards, for example, 181, 13,531 etc.

A fun math problem to do is this one

111,111,111 x 111,111,111=?

The answer is the ultimate palindromic number

111,111,111 x 111,111,111=12,345,678,987,654,321

Now you can dazzle all your friends with this fun math tidbit :-)

On a side note, my dad and I are currently at a Joni and friends family camp. The same one where last year my dad lost all his hair. To read about last years hair loss click here.

One Year Anniversery!

It’s the one year anniversary of the Math-U-See Blog!

A look back at the first month of posting brings back some fun memories, such as…

Pop in Ohio
The trip to the Christian Home Educators of Ohio convention and the convention report.

Things in life tend to repeat and today Steve (a.k.a “Pop”) is en route again to CHEO where he will be giving three talks, “The Family That Stays Together,” “Pride and Expectations” and “Training Disciples,” if you can make it to the conference stop by and say hi, if you can’t, just click here and listen to the talks free online.

Using Math-U-See in the UK

London
A photo from Math-U-See’s visit to London last year

Here is a great blog post about Math-U-See from a Math-U-See user in the United Kingdom. Deborah runs the UK national blog at homeschoolblogger.com and she enjoys “Sharing information about homeschooling in the United Kingdom. Encouraging and equipping UK homeschoolers.” (from her about page)

Here is a little of what she had so say about using Math-U-See in the UK…

We have gone from hating math (both of us that is!), to loving it and doing it first thing every morning. It is fun now that we understand it!!

Why am I reviewing an American homeschool product that you have to order from the states? Because they have actually done a British version of the curriculum! OK. So the teacher is still Mr. Demme with an American accent. But the books use Mum instead of Mom in the word problems, english money, and metric measurements instead of imperial. It isn’t often that the companies take the time to redo their product to meet the needs of the British homeschool market

Happy Fathers Day!

It is that time of the year again, the time when fathers around the world get cards, ties and other cool stuff :-) Since I have a father I’d like to thank him for being a great dad and wish him a happy fathers day.

My dad not only is an excellent math teacher but he is an all around fun guy, he will do things that other people think are “just for the birds”

For example…

For the Birds
Feeding the birds in Australia

He also is still a student and loves to learn and see new things.

In the mist
“Into the Mist”

This was taken visiting a volcano in Indonesia a few months ago. He also has a heart to see families strengthened and brought together. Just listen to a few of his talks, the family is key.

With Hair
Here he is with our family, way back when he had hair

wedding
And here is is now without so much hair but with a family that still likes to hang out and play croquet.

We played yesterday and he still beats us all :-)

Happy Fathers day dad!

Fun Drill Sheets :-)

Rose of the StarrJrFamily blog send me this picture of her daughter doing Math-U-See’s online drills. She said, “thanks to who ever created the on-line drills…they are great!”

Drill Sheets

Try out the drill sheets for yourself by clicking here.

Peter, our “high tech guru” is the brains behind the online drill sheets. Click here to read the interview I did with him almost a full year ago.
