Steve at CHEA

This weekend Steve Demme (a.k.a. pop) was in California at the Bay AreaCHEA convention. Jenny, A Math-U-Fan, sent us this report and some fun pictures.

“I just came home from the Bay Area CHEA convention (California). I was so excited to meet your dad and even had my sister take a picture of me with him (notice the bunny ears). I picked up the skip counting CD, and he signed the songbook for my kids. They were so excited when I got home and wished they could have met him too.”

“Anyway, big thanks to you and everyone who makes it possible for us to use this program! It’s such a blessing to be able to watch the videos with my kids and see them really getting it. My 9yr old is now excited about math, and we’re not fighting anymore!”

Happy Kids
Here they are with the signed songbook

To see where Steve will be next check out the “Events” page on the MUS website.

Have you ever met Steve at a convention?

Punny Math

In my experience with mathematicians, they all enjoy puns and silly jokes. My dad is always punning and even my math professors at college engaged in puns.

So in honor of mathematicians everywhere here are 10 classic math puns for your groaning enjoyment.

1) How do you prove in three steps that a sheet of paper is a lazy dog?

  1. A sheet of paper is an ink-lined plane.
  2. An inclined plane is a slope up.
  3. A slow pup is a lazy dog.

2) A geometer went to the beach to catch the rays and became a TanGent.

3) Lumberjacks make good musicians because of their natural logarithms.

4) Math puns are the first sine of weakness

5) Some math students are so clueless. They think General Calculus is a famous war hero!

6) If General Calculus actually did exist, he probably knew how to integrate his troops together and differentiate between his enemies and his allies.

7) Trigonometry for farmers: swine and cowswine.

8 ) A student tired of doing geometry told his teacher, “I’ll do algebra, I’ll do trig, and I’ll even do statistics, but graphing is where I draw the line!”

9) Q. What happened to the plant in the math classroom?
A. It got square roots

10) Asked how his pet parrot died, the mathematician answered “Polynomial. Polygon.”

Bonus) Ethan posted 10 math puns on this blog in the hopes that one would make someone laugh… but no pun in ten did. :-)

Which was your favorite pun?

Rep Convention/Reunion 2007

Last week we had our 2007 rep convention. All our regional Math-U-See representatives met in Colorado Springs, CO to discuss new ideas, swap book fair tales and catch up with each other. It was a good convention and we had fun visiting Colorado Springs as well. During our free time we had the opportunity to…

  • Go Hiking
  • Go Shopping
  • Drive up Pikes Peak
  • Go horseback riding
  • Visit Focus on the Family

Here are some pictures, It felt more like a family reunion than a business trip.

The fun of blogging is spreading and you will be seeing a few more reps starting their own blogs as well as more guest posts on the Math-U-See blog.

In the spirit of the season I am very thankful for the reps Math-U-See has been blessed with. They are a group of people who who truly care about helping people teach math and we couldn’t do it without you.

Thanks,

have a happy Thanksgiving everybody!

Ecstatic about Math

Jenny sent me these pictures of her son’s showing how much the love Math-U-See. She also had this to say,

“Math-U-See saved me from losing my mind. My oldest son was using another math program which many families love, but we hate. He would sit for 2-3 hours and never get anything done. After buying Math-U-See at last year’s conference we threw away our **** and dove right in to our new books. Now he not only is able to do the lessons, but he is also understanding the concepts.”

“I have never been so excited by home school books… ever.”

Hey I had a camouflage when I was a kid… oh wait I still have it :-)

Math-U-See Testimonials

Here are a few of my favorite testimonials that we have recently received via our feedback page. We get a lot of these and they are always a joy to read.

Dear Steve,
I am so thankful for Math-U-See. I am a homeschool mom and former public school teacher. I have never used a curriculum where the learner has such a multi-sensory experience. I feel as though I am learning concepts I was never taught. My son is doing so well with Pre-Algebra and no longer hates math. I am amazed. We use the DVD and then do as many practice sheets as is needed for mastery. The test is then administered before moving to a new lesson. It is an excellent curriculum for our needs and has been highly recommended to others. I have told many people who have children with learning disabilities in public and private schools as well as other homeschoolers. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! We are now looking forward to rather than fearing algebra. Cindy, NC

THANK YOU!!!!
For the first time in my son’s 16-year life he finally understands math! My friend told me about math u see and I didn’t believe all her praises, well call me Thomas (doubting Thomas) Coty just ran in the kitchen jumping up and down ranting and raving ” I understand this Stuff!!!” He even showed me ALL his work. We are ordering Algebra 2 for next year. God’s Blessings.
Tiffany, Indiana

Here is my favorite one :-)

I used your math program when I was younger and I remember learning algebraic equations in 2nd grade. Now that I am in 7th grade, algebra is so easy for me. I feel like it is review! Thank you!
Sincerely,
Valerie, 12 years old
